REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION AT DUNMORE

Dunmore House celebrated Republic day today. The kids were looking their best in ethnic wear, and laughter and fun was in the air. The children were told about the diversity of Indian culture and the unity that binds us together. We gave away pretty bangles to the girls to compliment their indian costumes and tri-colour wrist bands to the boys. The day ended with the singing of the National Anthem. Here are the pics for everyone to enjoy!!

Welcome

The word "DUNMORE" is of Scottish origin and means "A Big Fortress on a Hill". Dunmore House (Early Childhood Education Center) is very much like a fortress, with its spacious halls, indo-western structural design and overwhelming beauty. Located 3 kms from the Marathalli flyover, just off the Whitefield main road, opposite the Siddhapura bus stop, this citadel has been designed for the flurry and flutter of tiny feet and cheerful laughter of little children. At Dunmore, we are dedicated to one thing - giving your child the best start on life by laying the foundations for a lifetime of learning.

From our dedicated staff and inspiring array of programs, to our secure state-of-the-art facilities, every element of Dunmore is designed to enrich your child's mind, body and spirit. Set in a spacious 18,000 sq. ft. plot, the preschool has a beautiful kitchen garden with all types of fruits and vegetables that form a part of its nature study curriculum, a cycle track for children to work and develop their gross muscles, a beautiful outdoor play station and a vast sandpit for kids to play and explore. It also boast of a serene indoor courtyard with lush green grass, for story time under the open sky.

Started on 17th October, 2010, The Dunmore House, is the brain child of two enthusiastic and qualified women, mothers themselves, who firmly believe, that childhood is the most beautiful of all life's seasons. Short as it is, it should be the most memorable one. Shahista Ismail, Co-Director at Dunmore House, is a qualified Montessori diploma holder from the UK ( London Montessori Center International , UK) and has over 8yrs of teaching experience with children of all ages and backgrounds. She has two more preschools in Bangalore to her credit and loves working with children. "I come from a bloodline of teachers. My great grandmother, right down to my own mom were all teachers. I guess in a way, I'm carrying on my family tradition. You can learn so much from children, how much patience you have for instance....Children make you want to start life over! While designing Dunmore I was looking to create a preschool that my 2yr old would be overjoyed to be in. A place where she could have her own space, do her own thing and explore her own self. A place away from the noisy sounds of city life, where she could run and play outdoors and hear the rustle of leaves in the wind. Dunmore House was my gift to her, and it is most definitely a gift a mother would love to give her precious little angel."

Vandana Kumar, Co-director at Dunmore House, has an MBA from San Diego. Her passion in early childhood education grew with the birth of her son, who really showed her over the past few years, how rewarding it is to satisfy the un-ending curiosity of young minds. She took time off her work in the corporate field to spend quality time with her son and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. "We should never underestimate a child's capacity to learn. You can teach anything to them. But the point is, to not focus on only teaching them the routine way. If we give them activities that are fun and well thought of, we can form the backbone of their future learning. Our teachers are all qualified. But more importantly, they are creative in their ability to deal with children - and perceptive enough to know the individual needs of each child. We all understand one thing - that love and affection is the key and our focus is on that. I truly believe that the child is never wrong. If anyone is at fault - it is the environment!"

Any preschool can help your child learn basic skills like letters, numbers, or shapes. But at Dunmore, we help children learn HOW to learn. We encourage children to question why and discover the answers for themselves. This approach inspires our children to think more creatively, thus strengthening their problem-solving abilities. Whats more, our programs include character-building activities that teach children the importance of fairness, integrity, and honesty. We believe that FUN is the keyword to learning. Our philosophy is, the over all development of the child with greater emphasis on emotional aspects, where providing a sense of security, confidence and self-esteem takes precedence over academics.

Our curriculum is predominantly Montessori based, but we also follow the Reggio Emillia approach and creative play way to bring variety in teaching methodologies. We at Dunmore believe that every child is unique, and therefore, we try to apply the learning method that is best suited for that child. Our teaching methods are designed to cater to visual, auditory as well as kinanesthetic learners.

The Dunmore House caters to children in the age group of 1.8 years to 5+ years and is open from 8:30 a.m to 6:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. Core curriculum hours are from 9:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. Extended day activities are from 3:00 p.m to 5:45 p.m.

"All equipment, toys and activities have been carefully chosen and picked by us. They are specially designed to give the best mental, physical and emotional stimulation - for hostilic growth. If our children have a better understanding of the world and get back home feeling secure and confident about themselves, we cannot ask for more, And gently, does it." - Vandana Kumar

"We really want parents to come in here and experience for themselves, the love and affection that went into making Dunmore House, the perfect environment for little children. It's really heartening to see little kids come in here and never want to leave. The beautiful smiles on their faces and unmistakable sparkle in their eyes makes all those endless hours of hard work seem worth it... " - Shahista Ismail
